Santa Monica, CA - June 7, 2009 - Fleur De Lis Film Studios sponsored a celebration for the 30-year anniversary of President BJ Davis setting two standing world records. Producer/Director BJ Davis started his illustrious career as a stuntman, during which time he doubled five Academy Award winners Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lee Jones, Tom Hanks, Michael Caine and Art Carney, worked in hundreds of films, set two world records and was inducted into the Stuntman Hall of Fame.
After the dinner at The Ivy At The Shore, company executives and guests watched the video of the momentous event. It shows BJ Davis’ twenty-minute flight from Universal Studios to the Santa Monica Pier, suspended by the neck under a helicopter at one thousand feet at seventy miles an hour – setting the first world record. ABC, CBS’ Connie Chung and NBC’s Paul Moyer reported on the event, as news cameras and an armada of helicopters followed BJ Davis’ daring flight across the City of Angels.
In a stunning display of true showmanship, BJ Davis was wearing a long tailed tuxedo, as he skillfully balanced himself hanging underneath the helicopter in an aerial neck trapeze harness. Ever the fearless daredevil, Davis was not wearing a safety parachute during the event. Once at the pier, Davis climbed into the helicopter, took off the tuxedo and prepared for the second world record. He re-positioned himself under the helicopter and let go, dropping one hundred eighty feet (an equal of eighteen stories) into the salt water below. Spectators applauded and cameras rolled to capture the history-making moment that thrilled the onlookers and news reporters alike.
A German stuntman was killed trying to break these world records, as a testament to their extreme danger. Fleur De Lis Film Studios executives and guests congratulated BJ Davis, celebrating the anniversary of his spectacular stunts. Decades later, both world records set by BJ Davis are still standing.
